Collect

First we collect material from events, businesses, and schools, pictured here is Earth Day Omaha.

Transport

Our little truck that transports thousands of tons of recycling & composting every year.

Process

We’ll turn this “waste” into a resource at our Ashland composting farm.

Steam

Pictured here is steam rising from our piles. Almost as if nature intended it, bad bacteria dies off at the heat range that our piles naturally acclimate to, while good bacteria, which has a higher heat index, sticks around in the compost which results in feeding your plants necessary nutrients.

Finished

While it takes about 2 months to break down into compost, our material will “cure” for up to a year before hitting the market. A good old Nebraska winter does something special for the composting process.

Before/After

Through our process, we turn cups like these back into what they came from: soil.

Now Plant It

After mixing our compost to make different soil blends, we put it back out into the world for farmers, gardeners, and landscapers to redistribute and add nutrients back into Nebraska’s soils.

Zero Discharge Site

We’ve engineered our composting pad to have a slight decline to our catch pond, so run-off leaves our site. We then reuse this water by applying it back onto the piles to keep the 50% moisture needed to kill off weed seeds.

Tree Waste aka Resource

Instead of going to the landfill to take up a massive amount of space, we receive local tree waste and transform it into mulch.

Next to the sandhill cranes and roaming bison of the Wildlife Safari park in Ashland, Nebraska, Andy Harpenau and team began composting Gretna Sanitation's yard waste and selling mulch and soil to local landscapers. Little did they know at the time, the journey would send Andy down a road to eventually create the Omaha metro area's first commercial composting farm, and subsequently usher in a new era of sustainability by enabling our community to go zero waste.
